After a week of rain, the clouds lifted to reveal snow-capped peaks and golden larches. We spend a day hiking at Morning Mountain and enjoyed the interplay of sunlight and fall colours.
The larches are glowing yellow at the top of Morning Mountain. It’s the time of year where two seasons exist simultaneously: winter in the alpine and autumn in the valleys.
We saw the snowy Valhallas peaking over the horizon, and the Kokanee mountains have turned into a blanket of white. The snow-line is around 1700m and many of the low mountains are dusted with winter on top and then fade to blazing larches and birches near the bottom.
It’s the time of year when dusk comes much earlier than expected, so we headed back down the valley just as the light was beginning to fade.
